Why even perfect brushers need a hygienist twice a year — and what actually happens during a clean.
Brushing twice a day removes most of the soft plaque on the surfaces you can reach. But plaque that survives for 24–72 hours begins to harden into tartar (calculus), which no toothbrush can remove.
What brushing can't reach
The spaces between teeth, the pockets just below the gumline and the back surfaces of your last molars are where gum disease starts. Floss and interdental brushes help, but they can't remove hardened deposits.
What a professional clean adds
Our hygienists use Guided Biofilm Therapy: a disclosing dye to reveal plaque, warm Airflow to polish it away and ultrasonic tips only where tartar remains. It's gentler than traditional scraping and removes stain at the same time.
The bottom line
Think of brushing as daily maintenance and professional cleaning as a reset. Together they keep gums healthy, breath fresh and small problems small.
